UMHB Women's Basketball falls to MC 58-44

Belton, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team could not overcome another second-half cold spell as the Cru lost a 58-44 decision to Mississippi College Thursday evening in Belton. The loss drops the UMHB women to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. The Choctaws improve to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the ASC with the victory.

The Cru shot just 33 percent in the first half, compared to 64 percent for the Choctaws as MC built a 33-23 halftime lead. The Choctaws pushed the lead to as many as 14 points early in the second half before UMHB started to claw its way back. Samara Williams converted a four-point play to pull the Cru to within eight points at 41-33 with 8:58 remaining. But MC answered with a four-point possession of its own to take control of the game again and would push the lead to as many as 20 points before a late Cru run cut the gap to the final margin.

Williams led UMHB with nine points and Carmen Maciel added seven more, Ashlee Adams pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Cru. Ten different players scored, but none of them reached double figures.

Caitlin Brown and Ebony Williams had 12 points apiece to pace Mississippi College. Williams hit six of her first seven shots from the field and also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

UMHB shot just 29 percent for the game while MC hit 48 percent. The Cru out rebounded the Choctaws 35-33, but committed 22 turnovers in the loss.

UMHB will close out its home stand with another ASC Cross-over game on Saturday. The Cru will welcome Louisiana College to the Mayborn Campus Center for a 1:00 PM tip-off.
