WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Whitworth fans knew a game like this was coming for Pirate junior guard Emily Guthrie. Guthrie exploded for 29 points and tied a school record with eight three-pointers to lead Whitworth to a 95-49 win over Lancaster Bible College on Saturday night at the Kim Evanger Raney Classic hosted by Whitman.

Guthrie, one of the top three-point shooters in the Northwest Conference the last two seasons, was due for a breakout game and it came tonight against the Chargers (2-4). Guthrie made 8-14 from beyond the arc to tie Annette Sweeney for the Whitworth single-game record. Sweeney made eight against Pacific (Ore.) during the 1994-95 season.

Guthrie scored 10 of the points as the Pirates jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the early minutes of the game. Whitworth was never threatened after that, eventually stretching the lead to 24 points at halftime (50-26).

After LBC scored the first bucket of the second half, Whitworth took a 60-30 point lead four minutes into the period on another Guthrie three-pointer and the outcome was never in doubt from that point.

Five Pirates reached double figures in scoring as Whitworth hit a season-high for points in a game. Jamie Lyons, Kayla Johnson and Lexi Belcher all scored 13 points, while Kendra Lahue finished with ten. The Pirates outrebounded the Chargers 50-29, led by eight boards from Belcher and seven from Lyons. Johnson and Lauren Picha each dished six assists.

Lauren Heliger and Emily Lloyd each scored 17 points for Lancaster Bible.

Whitworth (4-6) now heads into final exams and will return to action next Saturday afternoon against Lewis-Clark State College.
