CAMDEN, N.J. - The Rosemont women's basketball team won their first game of the season in the inaugural Raptor Classic at Rutgers-Camden, defeating the Penn State-Abington Lions by a final score of 81-33. The win evened up the Raven's record at 1-1 while the loss represented the first result of the season for PSU-Abington. The 48-point margin of victory was the largest by Rosemont since they defeated Cedar Crest College by a 93-43 score on 1/9/2000.

The Ravens took control of the game early, opening up their first double-digit lead when junior Ashley Montecchio (Aston, Pa.) made a layup to put Rosemont up 15-5 with 13:08 left in the half. Over the next six elapsed minutes the Ravens went on a 12-2 run to extend their lead to 27-10. The Lions attempted a comeback, putting together eight straight points including two treys to trim Rosemont's lead down to 27-18, but the Ravens would not let them get any closer. The half ended with the Ravens in control, leading 39-23.

The Ravens took total control of the game in the second half. Scoring 42 points in the half, Rosemont held the Lions to 10 points in the period. The final score represented Rosemont's largest lead of the game.

Three Ravens ended the game with double-digits in scoring. Montecchio led both teams with 20 points. She also pulled in eight rebounds on the night. First year Liz Coyne (West Chester, Pa.) scored 16 and also was strong in the paint with eight boards. First year April Buck (Darby, Pa.) scored 12 on the night. Senior Vanessa Johnson flexed her muscle on the boards to lead both teams with 10 rebounds. Johnson scored nine.

Trish Wilson scored 17 for the Lions to lead PSU-Abington.

As a team, the Ravens cut their turnovers down dramatically turning over the ball only 11 times compared to the Lions' 23 turnovers. The Ravens were also hot from the field, shooting 42.4% compared to 22.6% for PSU-Abington.

The Ravens will try to keep the hot play going tomorrow in their second game of the Raptor Classic. Rosemont will face Arcadia University beginning at 2:00pm on Saturday, 11/19. Tip-off time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
