Thiel Outlasts Westminster (Pa.) in Overtime

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost in overtime to visiting Thiel, 57-52, Wednesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action. No team led by more than six points during the entire game.

Westminster falls to 0-7 on the year and 0-3 in the PAC, while Thiel improves to 2-6 overall and 2-1 in PAC play.

Junior forward Katie Hughes and sophomore guard Courtney Zitt  both posted double-doubles for Westminster, each with their second double-doubles in three games. Hughes led the Titans with season highs of 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Zitt scored 13 points to go with 10 rebounds.

Zitt's layup with 4:25 left in regulation gave Westminster its largest lead of the game at six points (43-37), but Thiel outscored the Titans 9-3 in the final 3:46 of the second half.

Thiel scored first in overtime and never trailed. The Tomcats took their largest lead of the game with 1:49 left in overtime at 54-48 when Kelly Muffley drained a 3-pointer.

Muffley led all scorers with 23 points on 8-15 shooting from the floor including 3-4 from 3-point range. Muffley also handed out a game-high five assists.

Other notables for both teams included Thiel's Ashley Davis posting a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Westminster senior guard Emily Montone set career highs with four assists and seven rebounds to go with seven points.

Westminster travels to Washington & Jefferson Saturday at 2 p.m.
