Wesleyan uses fast start for a 69-39 victory over Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Eileen Gaffney (Manhasset, NY) led three players in double figures with 17 points and seven rebounds to lead the Wesleyan women's basketball team to a 69-39 victory over Western New England in a non-conference game Tuesday evening (Dec. 6) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

This was the fourth consecutive win for the Cardinals who improve their record to 5-1. The Golden Bears drop to 2-4.

Senior forward Emily Lippe (Los Altos, CA) added 13 points, six assists, and five rebounds while senior forward Sam LaCroce (Prospect, CT) contributed 10 points. Gaffney also had four assists, three blocks, and a steal.

Wesleyan jumped to an early 16-6 lead eight minutes into the game and never looked back taking a 38-19 lead at halftime.

Senior forward Sarah Proper (Coxsackie, NY) led the Golden Bears with 11 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Ali Pessolano (Hampden, MA) chipped-in with 10 points.

Wesleyan shot 45.8% from the field and forced 22 turnovers. Western New England managed to make only 24.6% of its field-goal attempts, but did have a slight 42-38 edge in rebounding.
