More news about: Norwich

NORTHFIELD, VT. – Norwich University battled back at many turns Dec. 3 but couldn't overcome visiting Bates in a 74-62 loss.

The Cadets, falling to 2-5 with the loss in the Ed Hockenbury Classic finale, saw the Bobcats (4-1) open up 13 and 15-point second half advantages. However, Coach Mark Zacher's squad responded in both cases to trail by as little as nine. The home side could get no closer. NU kept Bates close throughout the first half and trailed only 32-29 at the break.

Freshman guard Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) continued her sparkling freshman campaign with 15 points and seven rebounds. Senior center Jocelyn Fasulo (Contooncock, N.H.) registered a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Bates was topped by senior guard Kelsey Flaherty who was tabbed tournament Most Valuable Player. She narrowly missed a triple-double with 17 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Junior guard Allie Beaulieu hit four critical three-pointers early in the second half to get the Bobcats a double-digit advantage.

Norwich continues competition against the New England Small College Athletic Conference Tuesday, Dec. 6 when Middlebury visits Andrews Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

NOTES – Senior guard Karissa Doyon (Beecher Falls, Vt.) earned all-tournament honors for the Maroon and Gold. She tallied 44 points over the weekend.
