Whitewater runs out to big lead over first 10 minutes

WHITEWATER (December 3, 2011) - UW-Whitewater opened with a 29-6 run over the first 10 minutes of the game and never looked back as they defeated UW-Stout, 95-65, Saturday at Kachel Gymnasium.

The Warhawks ran out to a 53-29 halftime lead and went on to hold as much as a 39 point lead.

Whitewater (6-1, 1-0) had three players in double digits with Mary Merg leading the way with 17 points. Jamie Swanson tossed in 15 and Sam Quandt came off the bench for 10 points.

Freshman Courtney Hayford (Owatonna, Minn) led Stout (3-5, 0-1) with 12 points, nine in the first half. Brea Boomer (Fr, Grand Portage, Minn) finished with eight points, all in the second half. Both marks were collegiate bests.

Stout will travel to UW-Superior, Wednesday, Dec. 7, then return home Saturday, Dec. 10 to host UW-Platteville at 4 p.m.
