(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's basketball team suffered its fourth loss of the season, falling to Rowan University, 59-52, in the consolation of the 2011 Days Inn Tip-Off Tournament. The Red Devils played even with the Profs, never trailing by more than five in the first half and nine for the game.
The Red Devils led early on and were in front, 18-14, with 11:48 remaining in the half. Rowan pulled even at 22-22, and went up, 27-22, with just over two minutes to play in the half. A pair of Taylor Miller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) free throws made the score, 27-24 at halftime.
The Profs built the lead to six in the opening four minutes of the second half before the Devils went on a run to take a 38-37 lead with 13:30 remaining. That would be the final lead for the Devils as Rowan used a 12-2 run to hold a 49-40 advantage with just over eight minutes to play.
The Devils would answer, however, and cut the deficit to 49-46. They trailed 53-50 with 1:02 on the clock before the Profs knocked-down six straight free throws in the final 30 seconds to secure the win.
Junior Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre Dame de Namur) was named to the All-Tournament team, posting a double-double on Saturday night. She added eight points, four rebounds and four steals on Sunday.
Miller finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Lindsay Finnerty (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) added nine points and six rebounds while first-year Gillian Ferko (Palmerton, Pa./Marian Catholic) tallied 10 points, six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
Lauren Creel earned All-Tournament Team honors for Rowan, scoring a game-high 21 points on the afternoon.
The Red Devils slip to 0-4 overall. They open Centennial Conference play on Tuesday, traveling to Swarthmore College for a 6:00 pm tip-off.
