Colby-Sawyer Women's Basketball Overcomes Halftime Deficit to Defeat Plymouth, 77-65

Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-1 on the season, while Plymouth State drops to 1-4.

Junior Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) and junior Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) led the Chargers with 19 points apiece. Bullett was 7-11 from the floor and added 11 rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Mari Meserve (Carver, Mass.) scored six points and collected a game-high 15 rebounds. Freshman Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) added six points and four rebounds off the bench.

Plymouth State was led by a game-high 20 points from junior Kellie Walsh (Londonderry, N.H.). Walsh tallied five rebounds and a game best five steals as well. Senior guard Michaela Galvin (Windham, N.H.) added 13 points. Junior Colleen O'Hara (Otego, N.Y.) registered nine points, seven rebounds, four steals and a pair of blocks.

The Panthers built their first half lead by capitalizing on 14 offensive rebounds. They turned those boards into 15 second chance points. Plymouth also took advantage of 12 Charger turnovers, which resulted in 16 points. Colby-Sawyer was able to stay within striking distance thank to a 14-8 edge in points in the paint and 11 points off the bench.

Plymouth continued to hold a small lead into the second and was up 46-45 with 11 minutes to play. Colby-Sawyer took command of the contest from that point sparked by a 20-7 run over the next five minutes. The Chargers defense held on and did not let the visitors get closer than nine for the remaining six minutes.

Colby-Sawyer begins North Atlantic Conference action on Thursday with a home game against Lyndon at 7:30 pm. Plymouth returns home to host Salem State on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
