Barrett’s Third-Straight Double-Double Not Enough as New Paltz Outlasts Women’s Basketball

More news about: Stevens

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (November 29, 2011) – Senior captain Jillian Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team in their 62-50 loss at SUNY New Paltz. Stevens held the Hawks to just 37 percent shooting but it was not enough as New Paltz won the defensive battle on Tuesday night.

Barrett tied the game at eight with a three-pointer five minutes in, but it would be the last time the Hawks would not hold the lead in the game.

The story of the game was turnovers and points in the paint. New Paltz caused 33 Stevens miscues  and scored 21 points off them in the first half alone. The Ducks made adjustments at the break and allowed just five points off of turnovers in the second half, but could not close to within 10 of the hosts. The Hawks also scored 34 points in the lane versus the 16 put up by Stevens.

Dawn Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Avis Benjamin (Queens, N.Y.) continue to be bright spots in the Stevens lineup, putting up 10 points each in the game and combining for 11 rebounds.

New Paltz featured a balanced offensive attack, with no player scoring more than 11 points. Leading the team with those 11 was junior guard Kahsyrah Bryant (North Babylon, N.Y.).

Stevens will next travel to Ewing on December 10 to take on The College of New Jersey at 1 p.m. in its last matchup before a 20-day break for final exams.
