Gators Fall to Mount Union in Shootout Opener

More news about: Allegheny

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Allegheny women's basketball squad traveled to the campus of number 13 Mount Union, for a matchup with the host Purple Raiders in the opening round of the Mount Union Turkey Shootout. The thirteenth ranked team in the country used stifling defense, and lights out shooting to hand the Gators their second loss of the season, 92-44.

Allegheny would get off to a slow start, and could never recover as the Purple Raiders showed exactly why they are ranked in the top 15 of country.

The Gators would shoot just 32.7 percent from the field, including 1-12 from beyond the arc.

Junior Heidi Goeller would lead Allegheny with a team high 12 points and nine boards, on 4-9 shooting from the floor. Fellow junior Ann Ryan chipped in with six points and six rebounds, including the Gators only three point bucket of the contest.

Allegheny will try to bounce back tomorrow, as they will take on Waynesburg in the Turkey Shootout consolation game at 3:00 pm.
