STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- Alverno College lost the final game of the 2011 Pointer Tip-Off Classic to No. 11 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 70-43, today in Berg Gymnasium.

The Inferno (1-2) started out the game with a Hannah Galstad (Holmen, Wis.) jumper for a 2-0 lead, but wouldn't connect for another field goal until an Alyssa Jensen (Cudahy, Wis.) 3-pointer at the 6:15 mark, scoring only from the free-throw line during that span.

The host Pointers (3-0) would take advantage of the Inferno's scoring drought and 16 first-half turnovers, for a 46-16 lead at the break. The Pointers shot 56 percent from the floor, including 6-of-12 from the 3-point arc, in the opening period and committed just two turnovers.

Alverno finally got the offense going in the second period, connecting on 41 percent (9-of-22) of its shots in the half, while the defense forced 10 Pointer turnovers and limited them to just 37 percent shooting in the period. The Inferno outscored the Pointers 27-24 second half.

Galstad scored 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting to tie Stevens Point's Alyssa Olp (Brillion, Wis.) for the game-high.

Alverno junior guard Kayla Kennedy (Trempealeau, Wis./Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau) snagged a game-high seven rebounds while sophomore Jamie Hoernke (Mt. Horeb, Wis.) had six as the Inferno outrebounded the Pointers 33 to 30.

The Inferno host Finlandia University (0-3), who lost to UW-Oshkosh in today's first game, next Tuesday in Reiman Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
