CHICAGO -- Fourteen different players scored as the second-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team opened its 2011-12 campaign with a 93-57 win over Fontbonne University in the first round of the UChicago Tip-Off Tournament Friday night at the Ratner Athletics Center.

 

Game Summary

Chicago (1-0) jumped out to a 23-10 lead midway through the first half and by halftime increased its advantage to 46-29. The Maroons led by at least 30 points for most of the game's final 13 minutes.

 

Statistical Highlights

Taylor Simpson led all scorers with 18 points, while Bryanne Halfhill (pictured) added 17. Morgan Herrick came off the bench to tally 10 points.

Simpson (16) and Halfhill (14) combined for 30 of the Maroons' 46 first half points.

Chicago shot 52% from the floor, 50% from 3-point range (10-of-20), and 79% from the foul line.

Simpson grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Meghan Herrick had seven assists to go along with three steals.

Ava Johnson (12) and Kendra Schilli (11) finished in double figures for Fontbonne, which slipped to 0-2 on the year.

 

Notables

Chicago extended its regular season winning streak to 19 games and won its 12th consecutive contest at the Ratner Center.

The Maroons remained undefeated (8-0) in season openers under Head Coach Aaron Roussell.
