Millikin Women Defeats Whitworth

          The Millikin women's basketball team picked up its first victory of the season 77-64 over Whitworth University on Nov. 18 in Millikin's Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament.

          Whitworth led for much of the first half before a late rally by the Big Blue put them up 35-33 in the second half.  The Big Blue shot 48 percent in the second half and held the Pirates to only 31 percent to pull away for the victory.

          Millikin shot 44.6 percent for the game while Whitworth connected on 37.7 percent of its shots.  Millikin out rebounded the Pirates 47-29. 

          Crystal Zeigler was Millikin's top scorer with a career high 25 points.  Cecily Aldridge had a double double with 18 points and a team high 10 rebounds.  Zeigler and Beth Wellbaum each had seven boards for Millikin.  Heather Pruemer was also in double figures in scoring for Millikin with 10 points.

          Lexi Belcher led Whitworth with 16 points.  Kayla Johnson had a 13 points and a team high eight rebounds.

          Whitworth falls to 0-2 and will play Wisconsin-Whitewater in tournament action on Saturday.

          Millikin is now 1-1 and will face Whitewater on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 3 p.m.
