Doyon leads Cadets in opener

NORTHFIELD, VT. – A second half run helped propel visiting SUNY-Plattsburgh to a 73-56 win over Norwich University in the season opener for both teams Nov. 15.

Coach Mark Zacher's Cadets gave the visiting Cardinals a stern test throughout the first half and the opening section of the second stanza. The game was tied at 32-32 at the break, and the Maroon and Gold stayed as close as five points in the final six minutes. However, SUNY-Plattsburgh bolted off on a 16-4 roll over the final 5:35.

Senior guard Karissa Doyon (Beecher Falls, Vt.) got her season off to flying start with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. It marked her seventh 20-points-or-more game over the past two seasons. Freshman guard Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) made a strong impression in her first appearance for Norwich with 12 points, seven rebounds and a sparkling seven-of-seven effort from the charity stripe.

NU begins a three-game road trip with a 7 p.m. tip-off inside Colby-Sawyer College's Mercer Gym at New London, N.H., Thursday, Nov. 17.
