ROCHESTER, NY - From the opening tipoff the Medaille College women's basketball team controlled their season opening game as they cruised to a (69-40) win at St. John Fisher College.

The 2011-12 version of the Lady Mavs basketball team put a strangle hold on the Cardinals from the opening whistle as they jumped out to a (15-0) lead before allowing their first point, a free throw, six minutes and twenty nine seconds into play.  They would make life difficult for St. John Fisher all night long as they led by a many as (34) points early in the second half.

Four Lady Mavs tallied double digits in points while eight found their way into the scoring ledger.  Playing a terrific all around game was Tanisha Travis who was (4 for 6) from the field for (11) points, she pulled down a game high (13) rebounds, while dishing out a game high (4) assists.

The top scorer in the game was Brittney Rowland who netted (12) points which included a pair of three pointers.  Other (11) point performances came from Meghan Dougherty and Joelle Pollak, who also came up with a game high six steals.

The Lady Mavs were on fire from the floor in the opening 20 minutes as they connected on (63.0%) of their field goal attempts, including (45.5%) from downtown.  They would cool off a bit in the second half, but at that point the game was safely in hand.

In her collegiate debut Morgan Howe was efficient from the floor as she went (4 for 5) from the floor, finishing with (8) points.  Her presence in the paint contributed to the Lady Mavs outscoring the Cardinals (28-10) in the lane.

The win gives Medaille a (1-0) start to the season.  They will open up the home portion of their schedule on Friday (11/18) when they host Ithaca College at 4:00pm in the Sullivan Center for a non-conference tilt.
