Wesley Falls in Championship Game

YORK, Pa. - Wesley College nearly erased a 21-point deficit in the second half, but York (Pa.) held on for a 70-66 win in the Capital Athletic Conference Championship Game.

The Spartans (16-12), who earned the CAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the win, took a 48-27 lead after a bucket by Brittany Hicks with 19:28 left in the game.

Wesley (16-12), however, outscored York 20-6 over the next seven and a half minutes to trim the lead to 54-47 with 11:54 to go.  The Wolverines kept chipping away and two points by Jazmine Miller (Dover, Del./Dover) made it a one-point game, 64-63, with 3:44 remaining.

Wesley trailed by just two after a three by Miller with eight seconds to play.  The Spartans successfully inbounded the ball, however, and the Wolverines were forced to foul.  Aja Wallpher iced the game by sinking a pair of free throws with six seconds left.

Cory Boyd (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) poured in 22 points in the loss to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal.  Miller netted 18 points and grabbed eight boards, while Allison Beddia (New Castle, Del./Delcastle) went 4-of-7 shooting to finish with 11 points.

Heather Fuller (Greenwood, Del./Sussex Tech) pulled down 11 boards.

Angie Owens (Seaford, Del./Seaford) was limited by foul trouble to just 21 minutes, finishing with nine points.

Jamie Sapp had a game-high 23 for York.  Kristen Haley added 15 points and 13 rebounds. 

Both teams relied heavily on their starters, combining for just four bench points.

The Wolverines await word on a potential postseason bid on Monday, February 28.
