Devils Suffer Setback in Centennial Opener 63-49

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's basketball team suffered a tough loss in its Centennial Conference opener, falling to Swarthmore, 63-49, on Tuesday night. The Red Devils struggled from the field, shooting 32 percent on the night and shot just 56 percent from the line as they slip to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the CC. Swarthmore improves to 3-1 and 1-0.

 

The teams traded leads early on before Swarthmore pulled in front by five, midway through the first half. The Red Devils pulled with one, 18-17, before a 12-4 run to close out the half put the Garnet on top 30-21 at the break.

 

Swarthmore held a 10-point lead for most of the second half. Dickinson cut the deficit to nine with 3:33 to play, but the Garnet answered to take its biggest lead of the night, 57-41, with 2:04 remaining in regulation.

 

Senior Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) led the Devils with 13 points and six rebounds on the night. Junior Taylor Miller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) scored 13 points as well while Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) chipped in with eight points and three steals.

 

Dana Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) added a team-high seven rebounds, scoring five points and recording a steal.

 

Kayla Moritzky scored 21 points while Kathryn Stockbower added 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead Swarthmore.

 

The Red Devils travel to Haverford College on Tuesday night for a 7:00 pm tip-off.
