LINTON, N.Y.—The William Smith basketball team shot 50 percent from the floor and forced 16 Hamilton turnovers on the way to a 67-53 Liberty League win in Scott Field House tonight. Junior forward Kristen Kush led the Herons with a game-high 20 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists.

Kush shot 7-of-16 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the free throw line. She shared game-high honors on the glass, matching the totals of first-year guard Jacqueline Murphy and Hamilton's Blue Sanders. Only one player in the game had more assists than Kush (teammate Jaimie Rubin had six) and no player had more steals. In fact, Kush rang up one more steal than the entire Continental lineup combined.

Senior guard Mollie Danahy and first-year guard Sasha Borenstein added nine points apiece for the Herons (11-10, 6-4), while junior guard Chelsea Tracy, first-year guard Liz Douglass, and Murphy each threw in eight points.

Claire Hunsinger scored a team-high 11 points off the bench for Hamilton (7-11, 1-9).

The Continentals scored the game's first basket, but William Smith countered with nine unanswered points to take the lead for good. Douglass kick-started the run with a traditional three-point play.

Hamilton twice trimmed William Smith's lead to five, but after the second time, the Herons used a 16-4 run run to bloat their lead to 17, 32-15, with 4:05 left in the first half.

William Smith carried a 35-23 lead into halftime. The Herons outscored their hosts 15-5 off turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.

The Continentals trailed by at least eight and as many as 21 in the second half. They were able to cool off the hot-shooting Herons (27.6% from the floor in the second half), but couldn't keep the visitors off the free throw line (13-of-16 after the break). Hamilton earned just 11 trips to the line in the entire game.

William Smith will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 11, when the Herons visit Clarkson. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
