NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) poured in 30 points, including 25 in the first half, as Mount Union's nationally ranked women's basketball team claimed an 87-71 victory over Muskingum on Thursday.

Wiedt also had six rebounds while Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) contributed 16 points and seven rebounds. Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) added 12 points.

LaMattina, Kelly Evans (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) and Erin Schmidt (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) dished four assists each for the Purple Raiders.

Mount Union led for much of the first half after LaMattina scored the game's first five points.

With 3:37 remaining in the period, Muskingum's Suzanne Nichols hit a 3-pointer to give the hosts a 31-30 advantage. From that point, the Raiders -- especially Wiedt -- went on a tear.

Wiedt buried a trey, putting Mount Union ahead, 33-31, before Rachel Buirley's two free throws helped the Fighting Muskies forge the contest's final tie at 33-all.

LaMattina answered with a 3-pointer and then Wiedt exploded with 12 points -- a two-point jumper, two free throws, a layup and then two 3s -- to finish off a 15-2 Raider rally and put the visitors up 48-35 at halftime.

Muskingum pulled its deficit to 13 points on two different occasions, but could not come any closer in the second half.

For the Muskies (10-10, 8-5), Hannah Oakley had 19 points and Amanda Dobbins finished with 16 points and six rebounds. Nichols contributed 11 points.

With the win and some help from the Otterbein women, Mount Union (17-3, 10-3) moved into a first-place tie atop the OAC standings with Baldwin-Wallace (15-5, 10-3). The Cardinals defeated the Yellow Jackets on Thursday, 74-67.

The Purple Raiders, who are ranked 22nd on the D3Hoops.com and ESPN/USA Today polls, will return to action on Saturday when they host Wilmington at 2 p.m. The contest will be a Women's Basketball Coaches Association "Pink Zone" game with donations benefitting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
