Hollinger Reaches 1,000-Point Mark, but Spartan Women Fall to #7 Washington (MO), 69-47

CLEVELAND, OH – Junior forward Erin Hollinger (Chardon, OH/Chardon) scored 11 points and reached the 1,000-point mark for her career, but the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team lost to No. 7 Washington University (MO), 69-47, on Sunday, February 6 at Horsburgh Gymnasium.

The Spartans (10-10, 4-5 University Athletic Association) have now dropped five in a row – all versus teams ranked in the top 15 in the nation. The Bears have won eight in a row and improve to 17-3 overall and 8-1 in the UAA.

Hollinger became just the 10th woman in school history to reach 1,000 when she hit a fast-break jumper with 12:58 remaining in the game. In addition, sophomore forward Marissa Miles (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) scored a career-high 14 points, while sophomore point guard Erica Iafelice (North Canton, OH/Hoover) totaled eight points, four assists and three rebounds.

Washington was led by Alex Hoover with a game-high 17 points.

The first 18 minutes were tightly contested, as neither side led by more than five until under the two-minute mark.

The Bears moved ahead 14-9 when Kristin Anda scored a pair on a layup at 9:52, but the Spartans pulled even at 14 apiece following a three-pointer by senior forward Caitlin Henry (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) with 7:09 remaining in the half. The Bears then opened the game up with an 18-5 run to lead 32-19 when Hoover hit a jumper with six seconds left on the clock.   

The Spartans weren't able to put a dent in the deficit in the second half, as Washington led by as many as 30 when Monika Monson scored a layup to make the score 67-37 with 3:58 left to play.

Case wore throwback uniforms in honor of Mather College as part of Throwback Weekend festivities.

The Spartans wrap up the road portion of their schedule with a two-game trip at New York University on Friday, Feb. 11 and Brandeis University on Sunday, Feb. 13. Tip-off on Friday is set for 6:00 p.m.
