No. 20 Gallaudet holds onto win streak with win over Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – Time was on Gallaudet University's side Saturday as the women's basketball team escaped Cazenovia College with a 64-60 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory. The No. 20 Bison (17-0, 14-0 NEAC) remain perfect on the season and have won 17 straight.

Senior forward/center Easter Faafiti (Pittsburg, Calif.) recorded her 10th consecutive double-double, 12th this year, as she scored a team-high 22 points to go with 11 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Faafiti netted 14 of her 22 points in the first half where the Bison led 31-25.

Gallaudet had several younger players step up on Saturday and set or tie career marks. Sophomore guard Amy Bachtel (Columbus, Ohio) scored a career-high 13 points and tied her career best for rebounds with six. Freshman guard Stephanie Weiss (Wellington, Fla.) tied her career-high total for points with 15 and passed out five assists. Freshman forward Tandy Lewis (Frederick, Md.) made her first collegiate start and scored a career best five points and ripped down four rebounds and made three steals. Junior guard Andrea Amati (Frederick, Md.) rounds out the starters as she netted eight points and four rebounds.

Cazenovia (5-12, 5-9) was paced by Megan McDermott who made 8-of-17 shots from the field and scored a game-high 23 points to go with 13 rebounds for the double-double. The two other players in double figures for the Wildcats include Alyssa Lubeck (12 points) and Melissa Rivera (10 points).

GU held a 26-8 advantage in the paint but were outrebounded by six, 38-32, and shot 57.1 percent from the free-throw line. The Bison sweep the season series with the Wildcats as Gallaudet won the first meeting 79-40 back on January 16.

The Bison remain on the road tomorrow (Sunday, January 30) to face NEAC foe Morrisville State College at noon.
