Oberlin, Ohio – Exactly 11 years ago to the day the Oberlin College women's basketball team defeated Wittenberg University at Philips Gym, and today they did it again for the first time since then as the Yeowomen outlasted the Tigers 67-64 on Saturday afternoon.

It has been a long time coming since Oberlin last beat Wittenberg, but today Oberlin was able to prevail thanks to all-around great team effort. NCAC Player of the Year candidate Allison Anderson made a strong push for the award with her play as she netted a game-high 25 points to go along with six rebounds and six steals.

Fellow sophomores Kelly Warlich and Ellen Neumann also put together stellar performances. Warlich, who cashed in some clutch free throws down stretch, finished with 16 points, while Neumann added her second-career double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 boards. She also added a career-best four blocks.

In the 75-56 OC win 11 years ago it was Oberlin's all-time leading scorer Nzinga Broussard who led the way with 22 points, eight steals and six assists. Raegan Johnson also dropped in 18 points and ripped down a game-high 11 rebounds. (View Box Score)

In today's triumphant victory the Yeowomen really controlled the first half as they lead by as many as 17 points, 35-18, with 1:35 left in the stanza. However, a 6-0 spurt by the Tigers would shrink Oberlin's halftime advantage to 35-24.

While things got very interesting in the second half, Oberlin would never trail. The Tigers clawed to within three, 57-54, with 5:10 remaining. However, four straight free-throw makes by Neumann would make it 61-54 Oberlin with 3:53 left on the clock.

The two teams continued to trade points in the closing moments. An Anderson jumper followed by a pair of charity tosses would extend the lead back out to seven, 65-58, at the 1:51 mark.

Following a Wittenberg miss inside the one-minute mark, Warlich would secure the rebound and quickly be fouled. She would nail both freebies to make it 67-60 with 42 seconds left to play. Both teams would come up empty on their next two trips, but precious seconds ticked off the clock.

With 13 seconds to go Wittenberg would split a pair of free throws, to make it a two-possession game at 67-61. Oberlin would miss both of its free throws, but just seven seconds remained. Before the final horn, the Tigers would add a running-three but it was too little too late as Oberlin was able to hang on for the win.

Oberlin (7-12, 2-5 NCAC), which stopped a four-game skid with the win, shot 40.4 percent (23-of-57) and dialed in on 9-of-18 (50%) triple-tries. The stingy OC defense also forced the Tigers to turn it over 20 times, which translated into 20 points.

The Tigers, who had four players in double figures, shot 40 percent (22-of-55) overall and went 8-of-17 (47.1 %) percent from deep.

The Yeowomen will look to build upon this historic win they travel to Allegheny College on Wednesday night. Tip-time is set for 8 p.m.
