Williamsport, Pa. (Jan. 22, 2011) - Junior center Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) knocked down a 3 that ignited an 11-0 run early in the first half and Alvernia University (10-7, 4-3) head coach Kevin Calabria earned his 400th career victory with a 73-53 win at Lycoming College Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action.

Altemose's 3 broke a 9-9 tie just over five minutes into the game and the Crusaders ran off 11 straight points for a 20-9 lead.  Freshman Shaneye Glenn (Coatesville, Pa./The HIll School), who scored a game-high 20 points, hit the final jumper of the first half to put the Crusaders up 14 points, and the lead stayed at 13 or more for the entire second half.

Calabria, the only coach the Crusaders have known in his 22nd season, becomes the 35th coach in Division III history and the 27th active to reach 400 career victories.  His fourth career win over the Warriors improves his overall record to 400-196, a .671 winning percentage.  He is the third active coach in the Commonwealth Conference to reach 400 career wins joining Elizabethtown College head coach Yvonne Kauffman (668 wins through Saturday) and Messiah's Mike Miller (462).

Calabria earned his 100th career victory with a 69-44 win over Neumann University on January 21, 1995.  He reached 200 career wins with a 66-52 win at Marywood on January 12, 2000, and hit 300 with an 85-64 win over Immaculata on January 29, 2005.

Saturday at Lycoming the Warriors took a one-point lead, 8-7 on a layup four minutes into play, but Alvernia responded with a layin from Allie Toczylowski (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) and from there the Crusaders never trailed.

Altemose finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Brittany Young (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) also reached double figures with 10 points. Lycoming was led by Kaitlyn Ober who scored 16 points.

Alvernia is 4-3 on its first run through the conference and sits alone in fourth place, two games ahead of three teams currently tied for fifth.  The Crusaders travel to Stevenson College for a non-conference game on Monday before starting the second trip through the conference next Wednesday at Etown.
