Waltham, Mass., January 23, 2011 – Senior Kathryn Berger scored 14 of her team-high 16 points during a 21-1 run to open the game as the No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team picked up a 66-36 victory over Brandeis University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Sunday afternoon at the Red Auerbach Arena in Waltham, Mass.

Washington University scored the first 11 points of the game and led 21-1 before Brandeis recorded its first field goal. The Bears hit their first three three-pointers to jump ahead 9-0 just over two minutes into the action and an elbow jumper from Berger on the Bears' next possession completed the early scoring burst.

Berger stayed hot from downtown, hitting another three to give Washington University a 14-1 lead, and she drained her fourth three of the game to put the Bears in front 21-1 just 5:22 into the game. Washington University started the game shooting 6-of-7 from three-point range while Brandeis turned the ball over three times and missed its first nine field goal attempts.

The Bears held Brandeis to 24 percent shooting in the opening half and the Judges hit just six field goals, while Washington University shot 53.3 percent and 50.0 percent (7-of-14) from three-point range. In addition to Berger's game-high 14 points, sophomore Kristin Anda added 10 points and three rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting.

Berger extended her double-digit scoring streak to 10-straight games and she has scored in double figures in 14 of the Bears' 16 games this season. Anda also extended her hot shooting streak, as she has reached double figures in five of her last six games and is averaging 13.0 ppg during that stretch.

The Bears were 8-of-21 from three-point range in the win to continue their trend of hot long-range shooting during conference play. Washington University is shooting .381 percent from three and averaging 7.4 three-pointers per game against UAA foes.

Washington University entered the game holding opponents to 32.9 percent shooting but the Bears limited Brandeis to just .241 (14-of-58) from the field.

Washington University (13-3, 4-1 UAA) returns to action for a two-game UAA homestand next weekend at the Washington University Field House in St. Louis, Mo. The Bears host Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m., and Case Western Reserve University on Sunday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m.
