First half powers Majors to victory over Rhodes, 66-48

JACKSON, Miss. - The Millsaps Lady Majors rode a 13-point halftime advantage all the way to the final buzzer today, defeating Rhodes College 66-48.

The win snaps a four game skid for the Majors (7-10, 4-5 SCAC), dropping the Lynx to 5-12 on the season and 2-7 in conference play. Millsaps jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game.

Shante Morton got the first points off the glass on the Majors' second possession that were quickly followed by back-to-back threes from Shatoya White and Lovie Love. The Lynx got no closer than five the remainder of the game. The Majors took a 31-18 lead into the break and never looked back.

Lovie Love scored ten points in the first half alone, finishing with 17 to lead the Majors on the day. Shatoya White and Janice Okeke joined Love in double figures with 14 and 11 points respectively. Sharwil Bell was the lone bright spot for the Lynx offensively, leading all scorers with 23.

The game was fairly even on the boards with a plus-one to the Majors 36-35.  The Majors went 8-of-18 from three, including five in the first half. They shot 46-percent on the day 25-of-54. The Lynx shot a frosty 29-percent in the first half and 33 for the game, 16-of-48.

The Majors will try to make it two in a row this Friday as they head over to Atlanta to take on the Oglethorpe Petrels at 6:00 p.m.
