Emory Women's Basketball Defeats Carnegie Mellon

Sophomores Danielle Landry and Emily Hyncik combined for 35 points on Sunday, sparking the Emory women's basketball team to a victory over Carnegie Mellon University.  The Eagles raised their overall record to 8-8, 1-4 in the University Athletic Association following an 82-60 decision over the Tartans who fell to 2-14, 0-5 in the league.

Landry led all players with a career-high 18 points, hitting nine-of-13 from the field, while Hyncik tallied a season-high 17 points, connecting on six-of-12 of her field goal tries including five-of-eight from beyond the arc.  Freshman Savannah Morgan rounded out the team's double-digit scorers with 13 points and also registered five assists in the win.  Landry, sophomore Misha Jackson and junior Melissa Koike all tied for team honors with seven rebounds.

Emory shot 44.0 percent (33-of-75) from the floor, including 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from three-point range while CMU converted 39.7 percent (23-of-58) of its field goal attempts.  Though it finished with a 42-37 advantage in rebounding, Carnegie Mellon was hampered by 32 turnovers that the Eagles turned into 27 points.

Emory led from start to finish as it raised its home record to 7-2.  The Eagles led by as many as 19 points during the opening 20 minutes of play and took a 46-30 lead into halftime.  The Eagles had were effective from three-point range, draining seven triples in 12 tries, and were paced in scoring by Hyncik's 14 points and Landry's eight points.

In the second half, Emory would lead by as many as 24 points, 60-36, following basket by sophomore Misha Jackson with 12 minutes left.  The closest Carnegie Mellon would get from that stage was 15 points with 9:23 remaining.  

Emory returns to action next Friday (Jan. 28) with a road game at Brandeis.
