#4 Kean Women Handle Ramapo, 87-55

UNION, N.J. (1/22/11) – Freshman guard Emily Cristaldi led four players in double figures, as she scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Kean University women's basketball team to a 87-55 win over Ramapo College in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Cristaldi hit 4-of-5 three-pointers and added two assists and three steals, as the #4 Cougars (16-2, 7-0 NJAC) remain undefeated in the conference.  For Ramapo (11-7, 2-5 NJAC), freshman center Brittany Howes finished with a team-high 13 points and five rebounds.

The Cougars built an early 12-4 lead less than four minutes into the game, as Cristaldi knocked down a pair-of three points and sophomore Simone Smith added a pair of lay-ups for the early lead.  After extending the lead to nine points at 20-11 midway through the half, the Cougars would lead by as many as 14 points at 37-23 on a lay-up by Cristaldi with 68 seconds left in the half, before taking a 37-25 lead at halftime.

Cristaldi netted 14 points in the first half, while Smith tallied eight points and five rebounds.  Howes led the Roadrunners with eight first-half points.

In the second half, the Cougars scored 18 straight points early in the half to push the lead out to 31 points, as Cristaldi capped the run with a three-pointer with 14:08 remaining for the 57-26 lead.

Kean would lead by as many as 38 points following a pair of foul shots by junior guard Noel Mathis with 4:18 remaining, en-route to the 32-point victory. 

Sophomore guard Naimah Clemons and Nicol Biesek combined with 27 points, eight steals and six assists, as Clemons finished with 16 points and Biesek dished out five assists.  Smith also reached double figures, finishing with 10 points, while senior forward Tiffany Patrick had eight points, eight rebounds and seven blocks. 

For the Roadrunners, sophomore guard Alexa Ryan added 11 points and four steals, while senior center Danielle Beam grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. 

The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, January 26, when they host Richard Stockton College in a NJAC doubleheader.  The women tip-off at 6 p.m.
