Quakers down visiting Pioneer women 67-57

WILMINGTON, Ohio — Marietta College women's basketball wrapped up the first leg of its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) schedule with a 67-57 loss at Wilmington College Wednesday (Jan. 19) evening. [Box Score]

Junior Rachel Jones (Dublin/Coffman) led the Pioneers (7-9, 3-6 OAC) with a game-high 17 points. Sophomore Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) also had 13 points and nine rebounds, while freshman Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) added 11 points and sophomore Chelsea Doutt (Cambridge/Buckeye Trail) contributed seven points.

Olivia Waters paced the Quakers (7-0, 4-5 OAC) with 17 points. In addition, Andrea Anderson had 12 points and Amy Brickner added 10 points.

Marietta finished 22-of-57 (38.6%) overall, including 7-of-18 (38.9%) from long range. Wilmington shot 34.3% (24-of-70) from the floor, including 37.5% (6-of-16) from beyond the arc. The Quakers dominated the boards 48-38 and scored 18 points of 17 Pioneer turnovers. Marietta turned 10 Wilmington give-aways into four points.

The Pioneers led by a basket on five occasions during the first eight minutes. A three-pointer by Bria Eslick with 11:47 to play in the half gave Wilmington the lead for good, 11-10.The Quakers took a 34-26 advantage into the intermission.

Wilmington extended its lead to 15 points, 43-28, with 16:41 left in the game. Marietta then went on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit down to seven points, 43-36, with 13:12 remaining but could not get any closer and the Quakers prevailed 67-57.

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday (Jan. 22) afternoon when they visit Baldwin-Wallace College for a tip-off at 2 p.m. The first place Yellow Jackets (12-3, 7-1 OAC) defeated Marietta 73-48 on Dec. 15.
