Stout nips Superior in final seconds

More news about: UW-Stout

UW-Stout scored the last seven points of the game and Whitney Rawdon led all players with 19 points as the Blue Devils edged UW-Superior, 73-68, Wednesday night at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Baskets seemed easy to come by early on in the contest, as the teams combined for 31 points in the first five minutes of play.  Stout (7-10, 2-6 WIAC) scored the game's first eight points, but the Yellowjackets (6-11, 0-8 WIAC) answered with an 8-0 run of their own.

By the midway point of the first half, Superior had built their lead up to seven points, which would be their largest lead of the game.  Stout battled back with a 17-4 run over the next eight minutes to take a six-point lead.  Superior, however, took all the momentum into the locker rooms after scoring the final nine points of the first half, and led by three at the break.

In a game that featured seven lead changes and six ties, neither team ever led by more than five in the second half.  Stout grabbed a one-point lead multiple times early in the half, but could never extend their lead until they took a three point lead with 3:33 to go.  The Jackets answered with five quick points to take a two-point lead with two minutes to go, but it was all Stout after that.  The Blue Devils scored seven points over the last two minutes, while the Yellowjackets could not find a bucket, and remain winless in conference play.

Rawdon shot 8-for-12 to score her new career high.  Sami Schoeder also added 19 points and eight rebounds.  Bri Davis, Kelsey Thingvold, and Hailey Hart all recorded double-doubles for Superior.  Davis finished with a game-high 12 rebounds.
