St. Louis, Mo., January 16, 2011 – Seniors Kathryn Berger and Alex Hoover combined for 50 points and each eclipsed a career-high in scoring as the No. 10 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team escaped with a 101-90 double overtime victory over No. 5 University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon in University Athletic Association (UAA) action at the WU Field House in St. Louis, Mo.

Berger was 8-of-14 from the field and 8-of-9 from the foul line as she poured in 26 points, while Hoover scored 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 7-of-8 from the foul line in the victory. Junior Dani Hoover finished one-point shy of her career-high with 16 points, while leading the Bears with a career-high nine rebounds from her guard position.

Washington University junior Claire Schaeperkoetter sent the game to overtime after drilling a three from the top of the key with six seconds left in regulation. Schaeperkoetter had 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Bears.

Rochester (11-3, 1-2 UAA) provided some last-second fireworks of its own, as Jackie Walker hit a 15-footer from the wing as time expired in the first overtime to send the game into a second bonus period.

Washington U. dominated the second overtime, jumping out to an 11-point lead after opening the five-minute period on a 14-5 run. The Bears scored 20 points in the second OT, led by seven points by Alex Hoover and six points from Berger.

Alex Hoover had the hot hand for the Bears early in the game, connecting on her first three shots. A fast-break lay-up by Alex Hoover gave Washington University a 13-9 lead with 13:29 left in the opening period. Rochester crawled back into the game and tied it with 10:18 remaining after a three-pointer by Walker.

The Bears offense went cold in the final seven minutes of the first half, hitting two of 11 shots, including a stretch with eight-straight misses. Melissa Alwardt's jumper at the 3:20 mark ignited a 9-0 run by the Yellowjackets, as the Rochester got the lead up to nine (31-22). Washington U. head coach Nancy Fahey called timeout to halt the run with 1:18 to play.

The Bears answered with a lay-up by Berger and a jumper by Dani Hoover from the top of the key with 18 seconds left to trim the Yellowjackets' lead to 31-26. Washington U. shot 32.1 percent (9-28) from the field and hit just 1-of-7 from three-point range. Walker led all scorers with 10 points in eight minutes off the bench for Rochester, which had a 16-4 advantage in bench points.

The Bears got the lead down to one (40-39) with a pair of free-throws from Berger with 13:04 to play, but the Yellowjackets answered with a pair of buckets from Madeline Korber and Walker to get the lead back to five. WUSTL again got the lead down to one (48-47) following a three-pointer from Schaeperkoetter and two free-throws from freshman Lucy Montgomery.

Rochester's Jodie Luther broke a 61-61 tie by making 1-of-2 free-throws, and then after a defensive stop, freshman Laney Ming connected on a pair of foul shots to extend the lead to 64-61 with 2:41 to play. A driving lay-up by sophomore Kristin Anda got the lead down to two (67-65) with 51.5 seconds left, but Ming drilled two more free-throws to get the lead back to 69-65.

It took Washington University just eight seconds to score as Alex Hoover nailed an eight-foot jumper to get the lead down to two (69-67). The two teams exchanged a pair of free-throws to keep the Rochester lead at two, and then Luther made 1-of-2 two to push the lead to 72-69. Washington U. called timeout with 15.3 seconds left out, and then Schaeperkoetter sent the game to overtime with the three-pointer.

Walker had 20 points and seven rebounds off the bench to lead the Yellowjackets, while Ming (18 points) and Alwardt (16 points) and Luther (13 points) also scored in double figures for Rochester.

Washington University (11-3, 2-1 UAA) returns to action next week when it hits the road for a pair of games at New York University on Friday, Jan. 21, and Brandeis University on Sunday, Jan. 23, at 1:30 p.m. (ET).
