No 7 Babson Overpowers Coast Guard, 76-37

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Nationally-ranked Babson used a pair of 19-0 runs in the first half to beat Coast Guard 76-37 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game on Saturday.

Babson, ranked fourth nationally in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll and seventh in the D3hoops.com Poll, improved to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play. It was the 33rd straight NEWMAC win for the Beavers.

Coast Guard dropped its ninth straight to drop to 2-11 overall and 0-8 in conference play.

The Bears led 6-2 following a pair of free throws by sophomore Karli Collins with 16:42 left in the first half before the Beavers scored 19 straight for a 21-6 lead with 10:43 left.

Babson used another 19-0 run turning a 25-12 lead with 7:56 left into a 44-12 advantage with 1:55 to go in the half. The Beavers led 47-14 at halftime as they shot 58.1 percent from the floor (18-31) in the opening stanza.

Sophomore Sarah Collins had a game-high 14 points while junior captain Kathleen King added 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds and four assists in the win. Senior captain Becky Bowman had 12 points and junior Nicki Wurdeman added 10 points for the Beavers. Senior Damisi Adewumi had nine points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

Freshman Larla Brown recorded the third double-double of her career for Coast Guard as she finished with team-highs of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Collins also had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Bears.

Babson shot 43.8 percent (28-64) from the field and outrebounded Coast Guard 47-34. The Bears shot 25.5 percent from the floor (14-55).
