Gators Bounce Back in Road Win

More news about: Allegheny

HIRAM, Ohio – Trailing by a single point (17-16) midway through the first half, the Gators' offense (8-6, 2-2 NCAC) ignited a 25-8 run to close out the opening frame. The surge gave Allegheny a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the conference clash en route to a 78-64 win against Hiram College (8-6, 1-3 NCAC) on the road Wednesday night.

The 16-point win puts the Gators back in the win column after having dropped their previous three games, two of which coming in conference play. Five players would reach double figures for the Gators with Daryl Ford and Ann Ryan leading the way with 16 points. Laura Magnelli was not far behind with 14 points, while Jill Gregory and Saddie Gravatt each chipped in 10 points.

Magnelli, a scoring catalyst and major presence in the first half, poured in 10 points on the strength of 5-of-7 (.714) shooting from the floor and pulled down five defensive boards. Ford was equally as strong on the glass with seven total rebounds, propelling her toward her third double-double of the season as she finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Ryan did most of her damage from the charity stripe as she sank 10-of-12 (.833) for the game and was a clutch 8-of-8 (1.000) in the second half. The Gators, as a team, continued to shoot well from the line against the Terriers shooting 81.5% (22-of-27) and are shooting 76% on the year.

A key turnaround for the Gators was their ability to control the glass. After being out-rebounded in each of their previous three losses, they found themselves on the positive side of the stat category.  The Gators were able to capitalize on the Terriers poor shooting night collecting 37 defensive rebounds to go along with their 17 offensive boards as well. The Terriers had 37 total rebounds.

The Gators continue conference play on the road as they will take the Yeowomen of Oberlin College on Saturday, January 15th with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 pm.
