Baruch Bearcats Rout John Jay (93-58)

The women's basketball team defeated John Jay College, 93-58, in a CUNYAC contest on Wednesday night in New York City.

The game was competitive early with Baruch (9-3, 2-0 CUNYAC) leading, 35-31, with 4:27 left in the first half, but the visiting Bearcats finished the half with a 14-9 run to take a 49-40 advantage into the locker room.

During the second half, the Bearcats started with a 12-4 run and led 61-44 with 16:44 remaining. They continued their momentum to outscore John Jay, 44-18, the entire second half to record the 93-58 CUNYAC victory.

Overall, the defense limited the home team Bloodhounds (3-7, 1-1 CUNYAC) to 36 percent (21-58) shooting and easily won the rebounding battle with a 65-33 advantage. The Bearcats also dominated with points off the bench (33-4), in the paint (52-28), and in second chance (27-6) categories.

Megan Bouwensled the Bearcats with 18 points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes of action. Folashade Akindehad another double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in 21 minutes.

Jessica Duleba(15 points) and Camille Voitot(12 points) rounded out the double-figure scorers in a game played at the nicknamed and very loud "Doghouse" on the campus of John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Jessica Lirio led John Jay with a game-high 26 points (7-13 fg). 

John Jay, who already own an important CUNYAC victory this season against Hunter, are coached by Baruch alum Diane Ramirez '06, who is currently second on the all-time Baruch women's basketball career assist list with 433.

The women's basketball team will return home on Friday for a CUNYAC contest against rival Hunter College. Please note this important game in the ARC Arena will tip off at 7:30 pm.
