SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers shot a season-best 54 percent from the field to pull away from visiting Mount St. Joseph for a 71-54 victory in the consolation game of the 2010 Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic.

The win, after Wittenberg lost a hard-fought 64-60 decision against Hanover a day earlier, moved the Tigers to 5-6 overall on the 2010 season and concluded the non-conference portion of the Tigers' schedule. Mount St. Joseph fell to 2-8 after losses to Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Wittenberg on back-to-back days.

A 15-4 run over the final eight minutes of the first half broke a 20-20 tie and started the Tigers on their way to the victory. The lead reached 25 at the 10:24 mark of the second half before both teams substituted liberally down the stretch.

Wittenberg hit 28-of-52 from the field, including 3-of-9 from three-point range, and the Tigers narrowly won the rebounding battle 36-33. Mount St. Joseph shot 36 percent from the field, including a miserable 1-of-16 from long distance.

Individually, the Tigers were led by 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists from junior Sarah Watson (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and 15 points and three assists from freshman Jaclyn Willoughby (Sidney, Ohio/Houston). Senior Katherine Hueter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) turned in her customary strong all-around game as well, contributing nine points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals to the final statistics.

Mount St. Joseph got 11 points and 11 rebounds from Carolyn Holt, while Abby LaRosa and Chelsey Doellman contributed nine points apiece.
