Spartan Women's Basketball Team Gets Back on Track with 81-49 Win at Wooster

WOOSTER, OH -- Sophomore point guard Erica Iafelice (North Canton, OH/Hoover) and junior forward Erin Hollinger (Chardon, OH/Chardon) scored 17 points apiece as the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak with an 81-49 victory at the College of Wooster on Sunday, December 19 at Timken Gymnasium.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 4-4 overall and will return to action at the Juniata College (PA) Holiday Classic on Dec. 29-30. With its loss, Wooster falls to 1-9.

In addition to her career-high 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc, Iafelice totaled five rebounds, five assists and five steals. Hollinger's 17 points were accompanied by six rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots.

Junior forward Sarah Milligan (Canton, OH/McKinley) added a career-best 14 points, while sophomore guard Evy Iacono (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame) posted nine points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.   

The Spartans never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an 11-2 lead when Iafelice (pictured) nailed a three-pointer at the 13:17 mark of the first half. Case's lead grew to 26, at 34-8, when Hollinger hit two free throws with 4:21 left in the period. The two sides exchanged buckets over the duration of the half and the Spartans led 38-12 at the break.

Case's lead never dipped below 23 during the second half and grew to a high of 35 when Iacono tossed in a layup to make the score 55-20 with 14:18 remaining in the game.

Wooster shot just 27.3 percent (15-of-55) from the field and was led by Kristen Schwartz with 16 points and seven boards.

The Spartans open play at Juniata versus nationally-ranked University of Mount Union at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29.
