WASHINGTON – It was another double-digit win for the CUA women's basketball team on Saturday evening as the Cardinals sprinted past Stevenson 64-47 inside DuFour Gymnasium.  CUA led by 27 at halftime and held the Mustangs (0-8) to just 29 percent shooting as the Cardinals win their fifth straight to improve to 6-1.

Sophomore Jill Woerner had a terrific game for the Cardinals, sinking 11 of 16 shots en route to a game-high 28 points.  9 different CUA players scored on the evening, including Jenny McGann with nine and Kerri Confrey with seven.  Woerner pulled down a team-high seven boards and Confrey dished out five helpers.

Sam Murray (14) and Jaquelia Conley (10) hit for double figures for the visitors, but Stevenson struggled all night with its shooting, as the CUA defense forced them the Mustangs into a 17 of 57 showing for the game, and an 8 of 30 performance (26 percent) in the opening 20 minutes. 

Stevenson also turned the ball over 26 times and got outscored 34-16 in the paint.

CUA came out of the gate and jumped all over the Mustangs, racing to a 19-4 lead in the first 6:26.  Stevenson hung with the Cardinals for the next several minutes and pulled to within eight on Kristen Steiner's layup with 10:36 left before halftime, but that was as close as CUA would let its opponent get. 

The Cardinals scored 22 of the next 27 points as they surged to a 41-16 lead with 4:14 on the clock.  A jumper by Woerner with 24 seconds to play gave CUA a commanding 45-18 lead at the break.

The second half was more of the same as CUA's lead grew to 31 on a pair of free throws by Liz Briones early on.  That wound up being the Cardinals largest lead of the night, but they maintained a healthy advantage for the remainder of the contest.

The Cardinals will close out 2010 with a trip to Florida as CUA heads to the Sunshine State for a pair of games.  First up, CUA will take on Wentworth on Monday evening in Daytona Beach beginning at 5:00.
