SCRANTON, Pa.—Senior guard Colleen McLane (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) scored a career-high 13 points and dished out five assists as The University of Scranton rolled past Cabrini College, 63-39, Wednesday night at the Long Center.

McLane hit 5 of 8 from the field, including 2 of 4 from the 3-point range, to eclipse her former career-high of 10 points on two other occasions as the Lady Royals won their fourth straight game to improve to 5-2.  Senior guard Julie Bonomo (Manhassett,  N.Y./St. Mary's) led the Cavaliers, now 2-5, with 13 points.

Scranton jumped out to an early 20-5 lead thanks to the 3-point shooting of senior guard Jennifer King (Taylor Pa./Riverside) and the tough interior play of senior forward Courtney Roselle (Cedar Grove, N.J./Mt. Saint Dominic Academy)

Cabrini pulled within seven points with just over eight minutes left in the half after Bonomo knocked down back-to-back shots.  But the Lady Royals proved to be too much, finishing off the half with a 17-3 run to take a 37-16 lead into the intermission.

King led all scorers with 14 points and Roselle added 10 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the field in 17 minutes of play.

Offensive rebounding was pivotal with both teams struggling with their outside shooting.  In the first half alone, the Lady Royals held a 10-3 advantage in second-chance points and an 18-4 advantage in points in the paint.

High defensive pressure was also a focal point of the Lady Royals, who outscored the Cavaliers 19-6 in the first half.  Senior guard Megan Kopecki (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) led the Lady Royals with four steals.  She also added nine points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Aside from being the Lady Royals's fourth straight win, the victory over the Cavaliers also held some special significance for veteran coach Mike Strong, who maintained a perfect record against his former stand-out point-guard Kate (Pierangeli) Pearson, now in her second season as Cabrini head coach.  The Lady Royals won last year's showdown, 49-44.

The Lady Royals will travel take on cross-town neighbor Marywood University this Saturday, December 18, at the Insalaco Arena beginning at 1:00 pm.
