St. Louis, Mo., December 11, 2010 –The No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team had three players score in double figures in a 69-49 victory over Loras College on Saturday afternoon at the Washington University Field House in St. Louis, Mo.

Senior forward Kathryn Berger turned in a line of 17 points and 11 rebounds for the second day in a row to lead the Bears offensively, marking her third double-double of the season. Freshman Jordan Rettig added 13 points and senior guard Alex Hoover filled out the stat sheet with 10 points, seven assists, a career-high six steals and five rebounds.

With her seven assists against the Duhawks, Alex Hoover increased her career total to 341, moving past Sarah Goldman (1990-94) for sole possession of second place in school history.

Rettig scored the first seven points of the game for Washington U. as the Bears took a 7-4 lead fewer than three minutes into the action, and stretched that advantage to 13-6 with a lay-up from sophomore Annie Sayers. Loras quickly got back into the game with three-pointers from Lindsey LaBadie and Brittney Cato on back-to-back possessions.

Following Loras' quick scoring strike Washington University was unable to create any distance until Berger drilled a three-pointer to break a 20-20 tie and spark an 11-2 WUSTL run. Alex Hoover found sister Dani Hoover for a fast-break lay-up three minutes later to give the Bears a seven-point lead, and sophomore Kristin Anda sunk a jumper to complete the run.

Washington U. led by as many as 11 points in the first half and Berger hit a runner through the lane just before time expired in the period to bring the halftime margin to eight points. She finished the first half with nine points and six rebounds, while Rettig scored nine points and Anda added seven.

Loras shot 50.0 percent (14-of-28) from the field in the first half compared to just 37.5 percent shooting for Washington U., but the Bears were able to get to the free-throw line much more frequently, where they shot 10-of-11, while Loras converted just two of its seven free-throw opportunities.

Another Rettig lay-up gave Washington U. a 10-point lead just over three minutes into the second half and Berger's third three pointer of the game put the Bears ahead by 12 points with just over 12 minutes to play. From that point both teams went cold from the field, hitting just one field goal apiece over the next 6:05.

Dani Hoover sunk a three-pointer as the shot clock neared expiration to lift the Bears to their largest lead of the game, a 15-point cushion, with just under six minutes to play and Loras was never closer than 14 points for the rest of the game.

Alex Hudson led Loras with 11 points and the Duhawks finished the game shooting 35.1 percent form the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range. Washington U. held a 51-36 edge in rebounding with 18 offensive boards and 17 second-chance points. The Bears were 16-of-17 (94.1 percent) from the free-throw line, setting a new school record in free-throw shooting percentage.

Washington U. (7-1) concludes its first semester of competition and begins a string of four-straight road contests on Saturday, Dec. 18, when it faces Webster University in St. Louis, Mo., at 1 p.m.
