MEADVILLE, Pa. – Thursday night saw a career milestone at the David V. Wise Center as senior guard Jill Gregory surpassed the career 1,000-point mark midway through the second half in an 86-65 blowout win over visiting Fredonia State University.

Coming into the mid-week non-conference tilt, Gregory was 16 points from the magic number. Averaging 17.3 points per game, the milestone was a near certainty. Through the first half, Gregory was aggressive as she drove the ball in the paint to create her shots and earned three trips to the charity stripe. Six of her 11 first-half points came from the line.

With a comfortable 22-point lead after the first half, the Gators (6-3, 1-0 NCAC) continued to work through their normal offense and did not look to force the ball to Gregory. She would pull to within one-point after knocking down a mid-range jumper with 15:15 left in the game. Following a turnover by the Blue Devils (2-7, 0-2 SUNYAC), Gregory would get a look in the paint. Her first shot hit under the rim, but she was there to clean her own glass and put up another shot right after that fell through the net. That would be her final bucket of the game as she left right at her average of 17 points and now has 1,001 career points. Gregory is now the 11th player in school history to reach the career achievement and the first under fourth year head coach Kate Costanzo.

"It is a great personal achievement," reflected Gregory. "I am fortunate to have gotten it, but I couldn't have done it without my coaches and teammates along the way." With the postponement of Tuesday night's scheduled away game against Buffalo State, Gregory was able to set the mark at home. "It definitely was great to be able to do it at home in front of the home crowd, it means a lot."

For most of the game, the Blue Devils struggled shooting the ball from the floor and even more so from beyond the arc. For the game they only shot 32.9 percent from the field and 11.8 percent from deep. The subpar shooting and the Gators ability to pull down defensive boards allowed the Blue and Gold to not trail in the game and have lead as large as 36 in the second half.

Three other players scored in double figures for the Gators. Daryl Ford and Saddie Gravatt finished with 12 points while Heidi Goeller chipped in 14 points. Ford and Laura Magnelli led the Gators with seven boards, and Britni Mohney cashed in six assists. Goeller and Gregory were a combined 14-of-14 from the line.

The Gators will next be in action as a part of the Defiance Tournament that will be held on December 17th and 18th. Allegheny opens up the tourney with the host school, Defiance, on December 17th. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
