ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Brittany Kilgore (Northfield/Nordonia) compiled a double-double, finishing with 30 points and 11 rebounds, but Mount Union's nationally-ranked women's basketball team suffered its first loss -- an 84-82 defeat to John Carroll -- at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex on Wednesday.

Lee Jennings (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) made a layup to give John Carroll the lead with 3.2 seconds left. The Purple Raiders' ensuing inbounds pass was knocked back out-of-bounds with 2.7 seconds showing.

After a Raider timeout, JCU foul and second Raider timeout, Mount Union set up an inbounds play with 1.2 seconds on the clock, however a potential game-winning three-pointer by Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) missed its mark at the buzzer.

Kilgore's 30 was a career-high as she led four Purple Raiders in double-figures. LaMattina, Taylor Hartung (Canton/Massillon Perry) and Kori Wiedt (North Olsted/North Olmsted) contributed 11 points apiece.

Amanda Rose added nine rebounds and six assists for Mount Union, which outrebounded the Blue Streaks, 48-33.

John Carroll was led by Jennings, who had 26 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Emilee Ritchie (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) also had 26 points while Missy Spahar (Willowick/Lake Catholic) put in 17.

The Raiders took an early 11-3 lead, led by LaMattina who had five points to that point.

John Carroll eventually answered back with an 18-2 run, which included a 5-of-6 team performance from three-point land. Ritchie buried three 3s during the rally and Sadie Zander (Vermillion/Vermillion) hit two as the Blue Streaks took a 30-22 lead with 7:03 before intermission.

Mount Union trailed by as many as nine points in the first half until it closed its deficit to 47-44. The Raiders twice trailed by six in the second half, but eventually used a 9-0 run, culminating with a three by Wiedt, to take a 70-67 lead with 8:07 remaining.

Katie Crider (Brunswick/Brunswick) buried a three with 6:43 left, giving the hosts a 73-69 advantage, but the Streaks (5-2, 1-1) answered with a nine-point outburst of their own.

With 1:08, a jumper by Jennings helped JCU to an 82-78 lead.

LaMattina trimmed Mount Union's deficit, making a layup with 49.3 ticks left, and a Kilgore layup tied the contest with 23.9 seconds remaining.

Jennings then hit the winner.

The Purple Raiders (5-1, 1-1), who are ranked seventh by D3Hoops.com and ninth by ESPN/USA Today, will look to bounce back on Saturday when they visit Capital. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
