Fahey Leads Trinity Women's Basketball To Road Win Against Worcester State

Worcester, Mass. - Senior tri-captain guard Kristen Fahey (Cumberland, R.I.) drilled four three-pointers and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line to post a game-best 20 points, as the visiting Trinity College Bantams defeated the Worcester State University Lancers, 58-47, this evening in women's basketball action at the Lancer Gymnasium.  Trinity improves to 6-2, while the Lancers fall to 3-3.

Trinity was also paced by junior guard Kaitlin Ciarleglio (Waterbury, Conn.) and sophomore swing player Carly Napier (Pittsford, N.Y.) who each had for 14 points, while senior tri-captain C/F Molly McGlynn (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked a pair of shots.  Junior Kaleigh Charette (Fairhaven, Mass.) led the Lancers with 13 points and seven boards, and freshman Meaghan Burns (Warren, Mass.) added 10 points and three steals.  

Up, 4-1, five minutes into the first period, Trinity used eight unanswered points to take a 12-1 advantage at the 11:24 mark.  The Bantams led 17-6 with 6:57 remaining, but the Lancers used four straight baskets from the charity stripe to get within seven at 17-10 before the visitors outscored Worcester, 11-4, to close out the first period. Trinity connected on five of their nine attempts from three point land (56 percent) in the stanza.

Trinity extended the advantage to its largest lead of the contest at 19 points at 35-16 on a trey by Fahey with 14:56 on the clock (35-16), but Worcester State used an 11-2 run to close the gap to 10 points at 37-27 five minutes later.  The Bantams kept the lead in double-figures until Charette converted a lay-up at the 5:15 mark to cut the margin to 45-36. Trinity went 10-for-12 from the free throw line late in contest to seal up the victory.
