Box Score: CU 59, CLU 58 - F

Cal Lutheran took advantage early on creating chaos in the opposing back court converting Chapman turnovers into easy buckets.

Trailing by two in the first half CLU's Erica Whitley knocked down a three-pointer to jump start the offense, stole the ensuing Chapman inbounds pass to spark the defense and knocked down a jumper giving the Regals a 13-10 advantage.

It was the start of a 14-point unanswered scoring run that propelled Cal Lutheran to a 22-10 lead with 8:43 left in the opening period.

The Panthers roared back using team defensive pressure putting a halt to the Regals scoring run. Chapman forced 15 Cal Lutheran turnovers in the first half and rallied and managed to tighten the gap to 27-23 by intermission.

Chapman continued its full court defense throughout the second half cashing in turnovers to points. The comeback was completed after Panthers junior Mary Petrie knocked down a three-pointer to give the home team a 33-32 lead.

Cal Lutheran trailed by as many as seven late in the second period before scoring nine straight points with Brianna Parker and Erica Whitley the contributors. Parker's final jumper of the run gave CLU a 52-50 lead with 5:20 left in regulation.

Down the stretch it was the Panthers bench making the difference as Brandi Hood took over the game in the final three minutes. She scored Chapman's last five points of the game, grabbed three rebounds and blocked a shot during the final 2:44 of regulation.

With nine seconds to go up 59-56 and a chance to ice the game, Hood missed a pair of free throws allowing Cal Lutheran to rush down the court for a final game-tying shot.

Donielle Griggs spotted up for three with teammate Starla Wright grabbing the off target attempt. Her put back layup with some contact on the attempt was good as time expired, but no whistle meant game over.

Of Cal Lutheran's four losses this season, three have been by three points or less including a pair of one-point defeats. The Regals enjoyed a 44-31 advantage on the boards but were unable to take full advantage shooting just 3-of-17 from distance and 11-of-18 from the foul line against the Panthers on Monday.

Four of five CLU starters scored in double figures including a 12-point, 13 rebound performance from Parker. Whitley led all players with 17 points, while Wright added 15 and Channing Fleishcmann scored 11.

The Chapman bench was extremely effective with Petrie and Hood contributing key baskets at crucial times. The duo combined for 20 points and 11 rebounds in 39 minutes of action.
