The Carthage College women's basketball team (6-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked fifth in the Nov. 30 "D3hoops.com" poll and fifth in the Nov. 30 Women's Basketball Coaches Association/USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division III poll, edged Robert Morris University (Ill., 8-3), 64-62, on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 5 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.

The Lady Reds took a quick, 13-point lead, 17-4, at 12:46.  The Eagles came back with a 22-10 run to make it a one-point game, 27-26, at 2:50.  Carthage led by one at halftime, 33-32.  Robert Morris tied the contest, 35-35, at 19:22 second period and tied it again, 39-39, at 16:29.  Carthage never trailed after that, as the Lady Reds re-built a 12-point advantage, 59-47, at 7:14.  The Eagles made things interesting at the end, as a layup by Niara Paino cut the lead to one point, 63-62, with 30 seconds remaining.  Carthage's Heather Gilmore made the second of a two-shot free throw with nine seconds to go to make it 64-62, with Robert Morris' Jerita Gordon missing  a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer.

Carthage shot 42 percent (22-53), while Robert Morris shot just 35 percent (24-68).  The Eagles turned the ball over 23 times in a rather-sloppy game, while the Lady Reds collected 28 turnovers.  Carthage out-rebounded Robert Morris, 46-39.  Three Lady Reds scored in double figures.  Heather Gilmore (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa/Pleasant Hill-Southeast) had 19 points on six-of-11 field goals and six-of-nine free throws, along with seven rebounds and five assists.  Cailee Corcoran (So., Oak Lawn, Ill./Chicago-Marist) had 15 points on five-of-eight shooting, along with seven rebounds, and Kristi Schmidt (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Normal-Community) came off the bench to score 10 points.  Diana Jacklin (Jr., Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) collected eight points with eight boards and five assists.  Sarah Rogers led the Eagles with a game-high 20 points on seven-of-14 field goals, along with eight rebounds and four assists.  Niara Paino added 14 points and Jerita Gordon 10 points.

Carthage travels to Grand Rapids, Mich., on Wednesday, Dec. 8 to play No. 45 Calvin College (5-2) in a 7 p.m. EST game at Calvin's VanNoord Arena.
