Jackets Win Second-Straight in HCAC Bout with Rose-Hulman

More news about: Defiance

The Lady Jackets picked up their second win in as many games with a 67-50 victory at Rose-Hulman on Saturday afternoon. After taking command during the final minutes of the first half, Defiance used defense and ball security to maintain the lead in its most lopsided win of the season.

The Jackets have been hindered by slow starts this season, but broke that trend by making five of their first six shots to jump out to a 12-4 advantage. Rose-Hulman, however, would respond to tie the game, 15-15, midway through the period, and took the lead with 4:28 left in the period when Alisa Dickerson hit a layup to put DC down by one.

DC's Erica King hit a three-pointer to put the Jackets back up by two, before Dickerson came back with another layup to knot the game at 22 points apiece with three and a half minutes remaining before halftime. From that point, Defiance held the Engineers off the scoreboard while scoring 16 points of its own over the last three minutes to go into the break with a 38-22 advantage.

The Jackets maintained a comfortable cushion throughout the second period, extending their lead to as much as 22 points before finishing with the 17-point victory. Rose-Hulman got its offense going in the second half, but was not given any opportunities to get back in the game against a DC squad that surrendered just 10 turnovers in the contest.

Molly Bateman recorded her first start of the season, and led the team in scoring for the second-straight game, posting 13 points, five rebounds, two steals and no turnovers in 19 minutes of action.

The Lady Jackets will return home to host Manchester College (1-4, 1-0 HCAC) on Wednesday, December 8, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
