Baldwin-Wallace Women Win Third Straight as it Beats Kenyon, 73-63, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO – Senior All-OAC guard/forward Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated non-league foe Kenyon College, 73-63, today (Saturday, December 4, 2010) in a battle between Ohio Athletic Conference and North Coast Athletic Conference teams in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea. The win increases B-W's all-time series advantage against Kenyon to 7-0.

With her 18 points, Schroeder moved into eighth place on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring list with 1,072 points as she surpassed All-American and former Yellow Jacket assistant coach Erika Schultz (2000-04) who had 1,059 career points.

In addition to Schroeder for B-W, now 5-1 overall, junior forward Catherine Spisak (Sandusky/St. Mary Central Catholic)
and freshman Lexi Rohrbach (Tiffin/Columbian)  both scored 12 points. Rohrbach also had a team and career-high 11 rebounds. For Kenyon, now 5-3 overall, but 1-2 against the OAC, freshman guard Maureen Hirt  led the way with a game-high 25 points and six rebounds.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets started off by winning the tip, which was followed up by a layup from Amanda Schroeder at 19:27 to give B-W the early 2-0 lead. Junior forward Nancy Coulter (Washington Court House/Miami Trace) scored on a fastbreak layup with 13:28 to extend the lead to 11-0. The Ladies would battle back to tie the game 17-17 on a jumper by Hirt at 7:18.

 Kenyon held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for over five minutes to extend its lead to 22-19.  The two teams battled back and forth the remainder of the half with the Ladies holding a 34-31 advantage at the intermission.

In the second half, Kenyon came out of the locker room and went on a 4-0 to extend its lead a game-high seven points.   At the 17:10 left mark, Schroeder hit her second free throw moving her into eighth place on the all time scoring list for  B-W.

The Yellow Jackets then went on a 7-0 run to tie things up at 38-38 with 16:20 left in the game when Rohrbach hit one of her two free throws. B-W would go up by eight points, 53-45, when Spisak scored on a layup making  at 9:11 left . Kenyon would come right back by scoring seven straight on a three pointer by Hirt making it 53-52 with 7:08. The Yellow Jackets would  outscore the Ladies 20-11 over the remainder of the game to secure the win.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, December 11 when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to play in a women's and then men's doubleheader against Ohio Athletic Conference rival Wilmington College at 2:00 p.m. The Yellow Jacket and Quaker men meet at 4:00 p.m. Fans can listen to all of the action from each game live on either campus radio station WBWC, 88.3 FM, or via the WBWC Internet web site at www.wbwc.com.

In addition, two Yellow Jacket women's and men's basketball doubleheaders will be telecast on SportsTime Ohio this winter. The games are the January 29, 2011 twinbill versus Wilmington College and the Third Annual "Take a Kid to the Game" Day doubleheader versus Ohio Northern University on February 19, 2011.
