O'Dell Scores 17 as RIC Routs JWU, 86-32

Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College sophomore guard Ashley O'Dell (Lincoln, RI) was one of four Anchorwomen in double figures with a 17-point effort as RIC crushed Johnson & Wales, 86-32, at the Harborside Recreation Center.

 

O'Dell shot 7-for-11 from the field and also contributed four rebounds and a game-high five steals. Junior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 16 boards for the Anchorwomen. 

 

Junior guard Stephanie Coro (North Providence, RI) had 14 points and freshman forward Katelyn Tarr (Putnam, CT) scored a career-high 11 to go along with five rebounds.

 

Sophomore Marina Millian (Chester, NY) scored a team-high 10 points with two rebounds for Johnson & Wales (1-2), while senior Morgan Wilson (LaGrangeville, NY) had two points and 10 boards in the setback for the Wildcats.

 

 The two teams battled back-and forth early with Rhode Island College (5-1) holding a 14-12 advantage with 12:25 left on the clock in the first half.  The visiting Anchorwomen then went on 23-4 run, capped by a layup by Riley to take a 37-16 lead with 4:44 left in the stanza. The Anchorwomen would take the 45-22 lead heading into the locker room after shooting 57.1 percent from the floor, while forcing 17 JWU turnovers.

 

 It was more of the same in the second half as RIC continued to build on their lead throughout the half en route to the 86-32 victory.  The Wildcats had 27 turnovers and shot just 25.5 percent from field in the setback.

 

 Ten Anchorwomen had at least one steal in the game as RIC totaled 22 swipes. The visitors shot just under 50 percent at 49 (33-for-68) from the field and held a 55-29 advantage on the glass. RIC corralled 20 offensive rebounds.

 

RIC is in the midst of playing four games in seven days and is 2-0 into the stretch. In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will play at Connecticut College on Thursday evening.
