Mount Holyoke Falls to #1 Amherst, 73-23

AMHERST, Mass. (Nov. 23, 2010) – Using a balanced scoring attack, the top ranked Amherst College women's basketball team cruised to a 73-23 victory over Mount Holyoke College this evening at LeFrak Gymnasium. It was the Lord Jeffs' fourth straight win over the Lyons.

Ten players scored points for Amherst, which converted 44.1% (30-68) of its shots from the field and 35.7.0% (10-28) of its three-pointers. The Lord Jeffs finished with a 40-29 edge on the glass and 20 assists. They were paced by senior forward Jaci Daigneault, who tallied 10 points, four rebounds, four steals and a pair of assists. Sophomore guard Marcia Voigt also netted 10 points for the hosts.

Leading the way for Mount Holyoke was first year guard Annabel Barrett, who posted  a team high seven points to go with five rebounds. Junior guard Christine Chancy registered six points, while classmate Bree Hollinger hauled in a squad best six boards.

Amherst (3-0, 0-0 NESCAC) jumped out to a 26-4 edge midway through the first half and led 46-11 at the break. The Lord Jeffs' final lead of 50 was their largest of the night.

Mount Holyoke (1-3, 0-0 NEWMAC) is slated to kick of its NEWMAC slate at home against Springfield College next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
