Medaille Women Drop First Game in NYU Tip-Off Final

More news about: Medaille

(New York, NY) – The Lady Mavericks lost their first game of the season Saturday night, falling (67-63) against host New York University in the NYU Tip-Off Tournament championship game. Freshman guard Joelle Pollak (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) had (11) points and (9) rebounds, en route to being named to the NYU All-Tournament team, and senior Amanda Sahhar (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) added (11) points and a team high (10) rebounds as Medaille (2-1) fell just short after an impressive second half comeback.

The first half was a see-saw battle with both teams trading the lead, but neither team led by more then six. Medaille saw its biggest lead at the (12:39) mark, as a three point bucket by Sahhar gave the Lady Mavs a five point edge.

Medaille came out of halftime trailing by just two, but NYU came out of the gates firing on all cylinders. Less than five minutes into the second stanza, the Violets shot themselves up by eleven points. However, the Lady Mavericks would not give in and quickly chipped away at the NYU lead. Seemingly as fast as NYU jumped out to their biggest lead of the game, the Lady Mavs erased it, tying the game on a three by junior Meghan Dougherty (Buffalo, NY/Nichols School) less than four minutes later.

However, Medaille would not see a lead at any point in the second half, and NYU would receive crucial free throws late, as they escaped with a four point victory. The Lady Mavericks will be off until Wednesday, December 1, when they will open AMCC play at home against Penn State-Behrend at 6:00 pm.
