Cougars Fall in Championship Game of Tip-Off Tournament

PITTSBURGH, PA (November 20, 2010) . . . The Chatham University women's basketball team fell in the championship game of the Fourth Annual Purple Reign Tip-Off Tournament to Carlow University today by a final score of 51-40.

 

Red-shirt senior Brittany Brown (Bellefontaine, OH/Bellefontaine) led the former defending champion Cougars with a team-high 13 points in today's loss and, with 12 total rebounds as well, registered her seventh career double-double.

 

Seniors Kayla Hilko (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Barb Petty (Amelia, OH/Glen Este) finished with eight and seven points today, respectively, for the Cougars.

 

In the 1 pm consolation game today, Franciscan University defeated North Carolina Wesleyan College (NCWC) 68-63. Following the conclusion of the championship game, the coaches announced this year's Purple-Reign Tip-Off All-Tournament Team.

 

From NCWC, sophomore Samantha Urquhart (Franklin, VA/Southampton) was named to the All-Tournament team, and from Franciscan, first year Molly Coogan (Northglenn, CO/Holy Family) was named. Coogan scored 32 points, tying the tournament record for most points scored.

 

Brown was honored for Chatham, while sophomore Danielle Lindsey (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley) was honored for Carlow. Tournament MVP was awarded to first year Chanel Berry (Ravenna, OH/Ravenna) from Carlow as well.

 

Chatham (2-1, 0-0) returns to action on Tuesday, November 23rd as they host University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg in a non-conference match-up, scheduled to tip off at 7 pm.
